For us, Lake Perućac is our summer go-to place. This is where we head when we need to escape the heat and cool off - in August the temperatures in our area can reach to over 40 degrees celsius. So this is the place where everyone from Bratunac and Srebrenica heads to when the sun is high. It’s our biggest local freshwater spot, offering kayaking, swimming, fishing and more.

Lake Perućac is one of the most distinctive landscapes connected to the Srebrenica municipality. Although it’s often associated with Serbia — where the dam, hydroelectric plant, and main tourism areas are located — roughly half of the lake’s shoreline and territory lies inside Srebrenica on the Bosnian side of the Drina River. The lake was created in the 1960s by damming the Drina, it stretches about 54 km and reaches depths of up to 60 meters. The middle of the lake marks the border between Republika Srpska, BiH and Serbia. With its clear waters framed by steep cliffs and forests, it’s one of Srebrenica’s most beautiful natural settings.

The lake is large, but there’s one main public area where everyone hangs out — there is two lakeside restaurants, one lakeside bar, rental boats, a pontoon to lie on or dive off, a swimming zone fenced with buoys and lifeguards in season. It’s the spot to be seen, meet friends, or just laze in the sun.

For a little more adventure, hop on the tourist boat, the “Grizzly,” and cruise through the canyon to Višegrad — the kind of views that make you stop and stare at the Drina and the cliffs of Tara National Park.

Fishing, kayaking, swimming, picnics, hiking, bird‑watching — it’s all right here.

Lake Perućac isn’t just a lake. It’s our summer, right here in Srebrenica.
