THE PLACE OF SEVEN SPRINGS...
SREBRENICA

Just a few kilometres from the centre of Srebrenica lies the historic Banja Guber area, known for its natural mineral springs and healing waters. These springs have been valued for their therapeutic properties for centuries — even before Roman times — and were particularly recognised during the Austro‑Hungarian period when the water from the Crni Guber (“Black Guber”) spring was analysed and bottled by the Viennese firm “Mattoni”, with hundreds of thousands of bottles exported across Europe, Africa and America around the turn of the 20th century.
In the mid‑20th century, Banja Guber was officially opened as a spa and the mineral water was declared a medicine in Yugoslavia, sold in pharmacies for its health‑supporting qualities. Today, although the formal spa facilities are no longer fully operational, the forested springs and walking routes surrounding the Guber area remain a popular spot for visitors and locals alike to explore. The site encompasses seven mineral springs, each with its own traditional uses — from water said to support eye health to a spring believed helpful for skin conditions or digestion and another for the liver — and while they are not used for bathing, the water is often drunk or applied to the skin for its reputed benefits.
